Our community launched two years ago, and in that time I’ve heard your stories, conducted research, and I understand how you feel. Here’s your chance to sound off. I emailed a survey to members of The HireFriday Mailing list on http://HireFriday.com. I’ll post the survey to social networks, so that you’ll get a chance to participate. A lucky winner will receive a $25.00 gift card to Amazon.com. My questions aren’t as leading as the ones listed below, but since I started #HFChat on Twitter, we’ve discussed this at length. I understand your pain and frustration. It is my goal to improve the job search experience for members of The HireFriday Community. You deserve to be treated well when you apply for a job. You deserve to hear back whether you were selected for an interview or not. You deserve an application experience free of technical headaches. I want to see to it that you get it.

I’ve written extensively about this topic. I’m reviewing these tools in my upcoming book, HireFriday 3.0. The fact is this: infograpic resumes aren’t just for artists, photographers, and musicans anymore. Resume templates, and infographic resume formats are not new. What is new is that some of the services can now take your LinkedIn Profile and turn it into an infographic in one fell swoop. It makes sense to check these services out. If you can leverage all of your social networks to jump start your job search, you absolutely should. I’ve tested vizualize.me, re.vu, Kinzaa, Visualize.ly. Some of these tools are simple to use. Some are difficult if you don’t write code. See my previous post about this. I recently interviewed the founder of re.vu. Stay tuned. Last Friday, we discussed info graphic resumes, branding yourself, and breaking into the marketing/advertising business. Our guest host, Kevin Dugan, Marketing Director of Empower Media shed light on this trend. Just yesterday, I saw an info graphic resume template that would be perfect for someone in the financial services industry. Yes, conservative professionals can use these tools too. Get your resume posted in a cloud. Drive traffic to your resume. Distribute it on all of your social networks, and package yourself like the best product on the shelf. Yesterday, I interviewed Kyle Lacy, co-author of Branding Yourself, and Twitter Marketing For Dummies. He and Erik Deckers are leading authorities on the subject. I highly recommend their books. Mobile Apps have forever changed how career seekers approach employment. Recruiters have adopted mobile technology for location based recruiting. Companies are latching on to mobile as a way to improve their employer brand and position themselves as an employer of choice. Some leaders suggest that if you don’t have a mobile strategy in place by 2013 you risk losing market share and a golden opportunity. Mobile, I’d like to think I’m smarter than my iPhone, but mobile apps keep getting smarter and smarter. Who could possibly be smarter than software? This past fall, I attended a webinar about mobile technology and recruiting. One of the co-leaders happened to be one of my favorite professionals, Ray Anne Thorne.

Ray Anne is our guest host this week on HFChat. Every Friday, HireFriday’s weekly Twitter chat features topics that transform careers and uplifts job seekers. Today, Ray Anne is addressing the core issue: how will mobile technology change the way we look for jobs? Mobile recruiting is quickly becoming an alternative to email. Some people would rather check their mobile device than invest the time to fill out an online job application. Recruiters don’t have time to wade through endless emails. It’s a big win for recruiters and career minded people alike. Mobile technology is social. It is easy to use. People are using it to scan websites, so it’s logical that it would have a substantial impact on the way we look for jobs, and the way recruiters look for us. Rayanne Thorn is the Marketing Director for Broadbean Technology in Newport Beach, CA, a recruiting software company launched in London in 2001. Her specialties include recruiting, writing, and social marketing. Like the proverbial moth to the flame, she has been drawn to the world of online communications because its impact and resultant changes are undeniable. She describes social media as the New Front Porch, the place where we meet and greet, gossip and unwind, listen and speak, learn, and change. Life in business is continuously altered because disruptive technology companies like Google, Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn refuse to stand still. She has presented her interesting take on social media in places as far away as London and Toronto and as close as her neighborhood chamber of commerce. When Rayanne isn’t talking about social media or mobile, she is usually writing about it. She is an avid writer about her brushes with humanity and technology and how they always seem to intersect.
