Job Search Satisfaction Survey
Click here to take this survey
HireFriday is conducting a satisfaction survey to measure your candidate experience. Our community launched two years ago, and in that time I’ve heard your stories, conducted research, and I understand how you feel. Here’s your chance to sound off. I emailed a survey to members of The HireFriday Mailing list on http://HireFriday.com. I’ll post the survey to social networks, so that you’ll get a chance to participate. A lucky winner will receive a $25.00 gift card to Amazon.com. My questions aren’t as leading as the ones listed below, but since I started #HFChat on Twitter, we’ve discussed this at length. I understand your pain and frustration. It is my goal to improve the job search experience for members of The HireFriday Community. You deserve to be treated well when you apply for a job. You deserve to hear back whether you were selected for an interview or not. You deserve an application experience free of technical headaches. I want to see to it that you get it.
When you get your survey, please fill it out. I’m going to attach a link here in case you don’t get our email. It’ll only take a few minutes, and it would really help us out.
Create your free online surveys with SurveyMonkey, the world’s leading questionnaire tool.
Have you ever felt like pulling your hair out after spending an hour trying to fill out an online job application? I know I have.
Have you ever felt discouraged that you never heard back from a company, or recruiter after submitting an application? We all have.
Have you ever been booted out of an online application because you missed a question? Did the system lose your data, and you had to input it all over again? How much time do you spend filling out an online job application?
My survey is far more objective than the rant above. I think you get my point. Let’s unite and make sure we get better treatment. “>Click here and tell us what you think.

John Sumser is a trail blazer. Sumser is the founder of The HRExaminer. John is the brains behind the digital media influencer lists he publishes, and he is the principal of HRxAnalysts. Sumser questions the veracity of trends, and regularly pokes holes in social media topics. Tomorrow, I will question John about the impact of interactive digital media on the recruiting, and on the human resources industry. I will ask him about his key take-aways from his research, and about the people that are featured on his lists. Is social media a fad? We will discuss why mobile matters.

Will Sumser disclose his true feelings about the topic? One thing is for sure, you will learn a great deal more about The HRExaminer, HR Analytics, Recruiting, and more. So please tune it. You can listen to this show right here, just click on the “Compassionate HR” tab above. You may also listen at BlogTalkRadio at http://blogtalkradio.com/comphr or find Compassionate HR on iTunes. Thanks so much for your support. I hope you will share this with your friends. Whether you are new to the occupation, or a seasoned pro, you are likely to learn something of value. You should read John Sumser’s HRExaminer-click here. His articles offer intelligent insights about our industry. In addition, I suggest job seekers read these articles as well because when you are job hunting, it pays to think like a recruiter, interview like you are an HR professional, and be stealthy like a social media pro.
Sincerely,
Margo Rose, M.Ed., HRD
Our transcript from this past Friday’s #HFChat: How Mobile Technology Will Change Your Job Search is now LIVE on HireFriday.com

Ray Anne Thorn
Mobile Apps have forever changed how career seekers approach employment. Recruiters have adopted mobile technology for location based recruiting. Companies are latching on to mobile as a way to improve their employer brand and position themselves as an employer of choice. Some leaders suggest that if you don’t have a mobile strategy in place by 2013 you risk losing market share and a golden opportunity. Mobile, I’d like to think I’m smarter than my iPhone, but mobile apps keep getting smarter and smarter. Who could possibly be smarter than software? This past fall, I attended a webinar about mobile technology and recruiting. One of the co-leaders happened to be one of my favorite professionals, Ray Anne Thorne.

Ray Anne is our guest host this week on HFChat. Every Friday, HireFriday’s weekly Twitter chat features topics that transform careers and uplifts job seekers. Today, Ray Anne is addressing the core issue: how will mobile technology change the way we look for jobs? Mobile recruiting is quickly becoming an alternative to email. Some people would rather check their mobile device than invest the time to fill out an online job application. Recruiters don’t have time to wade through endless emails. It’s a big win for recruiters and career minded people alike. Mobile technology is social. It is easy to use. People are using it to scan websites, so it’s logical that it would have a substantial impact on the way we look for jobs, and the way recruiters look for us. Take a look at this week’s topic and questions:
Q1. Why should job seekers look to mobile technology?
Q2. Do you expect location-based technologies to have any part in mobile job search?
Q3. In job search, what is more important – an updated resume or online profile?
Q4. Do you have any job search/job board apps downloaded? Are you using them?
Q5. QR Codes, RFID, NFC, Texting, and Apps keep updating, can jobseekers keep up?

Rayanne Thorn is the Marketing Director for Broadbean Technology in Newport Beach, CA, a recruiting software company launched in London in 2001. Her specialties include recruiting, writing, and social marketing. Like the proverbial moth to the flame, she has been drawn to the world of online communications because its impact and resultant changes are undeniable. She describes social media as the New Front Porch, the place where we meet and greet, gossip and unwind, listen and speak, learn, and change. Life in business is continuously altered because disruptive technology companies like Google, Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn refuse to stand still. She has presented her interesting take on social media in places as far away as London and Toronto and as close as her neighborhood chamber of commerce. When Rayanne isn’t talking about social media or mobile, she is usually writing about it. She is an avid writer about her brushes with humanity and technology and how they always seem to intersect. Since February of 2009, she has been writing Bonus Track, a featured daily post on RecruitingBlogs.com for two and a half years and now a partner at Blogging4Jobs.com. She is often a guest blogger in and outside of her industry.

John Sumser posted this today to his blog: Recently, I had the opportunity to interview the founders of The Candidate Experience Awards, and learned how this is transforming into a movement to which businesses large, and small are not paying attention. Check out my podcast ‘Compassionate HR,’ with Gerry Crispin, Elaine Orler, and Ed Newman at http://blogtalkradio.com/comphr What Sumser describes below is extremely important. The candidate experience requirements are often ignored by companies, and recruiters who post their job. Some companies think that people magically appear, as if opening a box of Lucky Charms, with the expectation that the perfect candidate is going to jump out of the box into their laps. This isn’t how it happens, arguably as the recession subsides, and candidates are less desperate for work, they will be more discerning where they apply, and why. Furthermore, they will remember how they were treated when they applied in the past. In summary, check out The HRExaminer’s post today. Comment, and let me know what you think! I quote: “Candidate Experience Requirements: The basic idea is that any person who visits an employment wbsite should be treated with respect, as a minimum, and delighted, as an objective. The basic steps in the process are are delineated eloquently in today’s article. I’d invite you to listen to my podcast with Gerry, Elaine, and Ed, as they are the founders of this movement, and this movement has teeth, and traction. Now, take a moment to read John Sumser’s article, and leave me a comment. I’d love your opinion.

Every now and then you have the privilege of meeting a kindred spirit in your industry. Truly, that is what Cyndy is to me. She’s my colleague, my confidant, and my friend. Cyndy and I met on Twitter (where I’ve met most of my dearest colleagues). Last week, she interviewed me for her industry website, NasRecruitment. It was an honor, and a pleasure to be interviewed by Cyndy. In this post, we discussed the importance of social media, and why Corporate America must embrace it. I now give you, Cyndy. I’d appreciate it if you’d leave a comment for Cyndy. It will make her day!
