Windshield repair is often a vague term used to define a procedure that entails the injection, sealing and polishing of special resins into an acute damaged area of your windshield. The procedure improves clarity, prevents further damage from spreading, and cures ailing windshield glass. Only laminated windshields can be repaired this way. Only if a chip or a crack spreads beyond the edge of your windshield and into another area of your vehicle, will you have to deal with a windshield repair specialist. Typically, windshield repair services are offered at a very low-cost, and the procedure itself rarely takes more than an hour or so, which is certainly cheaper than replacement.

This is a great option for people who live in parts of the country that don’t get regular snow or rain so their windshields remain relatively free of damage even in the heat of summer. If the chip spreads to other areas of your vehicle’s roof, however, then you may want to consider windshield repair instead of replacement.
One major benefit of windshield repair over windshield replacement is the fact that it does virtually all of the work for you. If you’ve never had your windshield replaced before, you may be worried about what this new glass will look like. In general, most people are pleasantly surprised at the end results: their car or truck no longer appears damaged, but has instead been restored to near new condition. This is because the process of repairing the glass consists of several distinct steps, each of which helps to fix the damage that initially caused the problem.
To begin, the windshield is first filled with a high-quality adhesive that serves to support the glass in the affected area. Next, a layer of desiccant is applied to further prevent the area from drying out and cracking. Once the chip or crack becomes noticeable, the repair technician will most likely apply a clear coat of desiccant to help prevent the area from drying out. As the repair progresses, the chip will be repaired using progressively thinner layers of glass. As long as these are properly applied, most chips should be easily visible after the repair process is complete.
The next step of the process is to carefully lift the chip to ensure that no dirt or anything else is underneath it. This allows the repair technician to use a precise attachment to repair the chip completely. After the chip has been repaired, the area will then be allowed to dry completely before applying a final layer of protective polyurethane. This sealer will prevent future moisture from reaching the glass and causing it to crack or chip again. As long as the windshield repair technician uses an appropriate adhesive and follows the steps outlined above, virtually any damage caused by a cracked windshield can be easily repaired. Even chips that appear larger than a golf ball can usually be fixed with the proper tools and a little patience!
