How to Look For a Job
Your approach is very important when looking for a job and it will help you despite the difficulty in finding one.
Applying for a job is selling yourself to a potential employer. It is important to let your potential employer know why you are the right person for the job over other applicants. You should be able to put yourself above the rest.
Take time to make a great CV and cover letter. When you are making your CV and cover letter, make sure that it is something that will make the potential get to know you better and be impressed by it. Failure is part of the process so don’t take it to heart too much. Take the rejection and move on.
Here are some useful approaches to your job search.
Join Linkedin. Being part of LinkedIn will be an asset to you. If you want to keep yourself updated on job offers, build your social network by joining discussion groups of industries you are interested in. If you follow companies that you like and comment on their posts, then this is one way to get noticed. Profesional comments are very welcome on these posts.
When their trusted employees recommend someone for a job, most companies hire these people. Ask friends and family who work in industries that you would like to work in. You may be able to find out about vacancies which can put you at an advantage over your competitors if someone can recommend you.
Don’t just stick to job listings. Look for companies to work for and not vacancies. Your interest in the company will show in what you say when you apply for a job there. But you don’t completely reject job listings. You can send a CV and cover letter to a company that has openings even if the role is not suitable for you. Take your chance, they may still have jobs that are for people with your skills. Your great CV and cover letter will show them what you’ve got.
There are many unfamiliar jobs that are available but you need to research on and maybe you would interest to try them out. This less traditional career path will have less competition but it will give you more opportunities to expand your horizons.
Potential employers will get an idea of what kind of worker you are by how you handle the application process. Research about the company before making your move. If you understand the company and what they do, it could work to your advantage.
